Why my back hurts ?
Back pain is one of the great human affections, almost everyone born has chances of suffering back pain.
Your lower back transmits the weight of upper body to lower limbs. It is the most essential weight bearing area and it is also the area of great mobility. A big amount of back flexion and extension occurs at lumbo-sacral spine between L4-S1.
Therefore, this area is constantly at risk.
Causes of back pain
Poor posture- Poor sitting posture, posture at work affects our back in a significant way. When your posture gets disturbed, alignment of spine disturbs and this creates muscular tension, which may result in back pain.
Sedentary lifestyle – Our back is made to move in all the three plains. Flexion, Extension, Lateral flexion, Rotation are some of the anatomical movements of lower back. Inability to move back inadequatly results in muscle stiffness which in turns result in back pain.
Altered curvature of back- Increase in lumber lordosis, flat back, scoliosis, can produce stress over muscle, imping a nerve, can cause stenosis.
Improper body posture during activity – In a way to do certain heavy load works, our core must be strong enough to give a good support and posture must be adequate to perform the activity. For example in case of lifting weight, weight which is lifted by producing spinal flexion has great chances of injuries to supporting structures. Adequate way is to lift anything by flexing knee and keeping back straight. So as to reduce direct pressure on supporting structures.
Deficiency disorders – It is thought to be associated with deficiency of certain vitamins like vitamin B12, vitamin D etc.
Injuries – A direct hit on back or fall on back is one of the leading causes of back pain. Fractures associated with injuries, may imping nerves, create muscle strain and create a cascade of pain cycle.
Management of back pain-
